of the African Health Monitor in 2000 proclaimed
on its cover page “WHO declares war on malaria”.
The issue closely followed the first African
Summit of Heads of State and Governments in Abuja
and described the principles of the RBM
Partnership and the proposed scaling up of malaria
control interventions. It is therefore appropriate
that five years into this commitment, we revisit
progress made in malaria control and review
updates on perspectives for the future
